Liminibus : Without an active audience, art is just another product heading for the landfill.

Liminibus is an adaptable pop up structure that offers site specific and immersive art experiences.

My work is completed by an engaged and active audience. To invite new audiences into the process we came up with Liminibus. It's the latin word for 'threshold'. But as my friend Vicky Taylor said, it's actually a mixture of limo and minibus. A perfect vehicle for portable immersive art events.

Pop ups that engage new audiences or encourage existing audiences to stop browsing and start participating . Get on !

Each Liminibus show is unique to the setting. The last major one we did was called 'Shelf Lives' in a Martello Tower at Jaywick. There have been several others, including Big Draw workshops and other community art events. We have a track record of attracting and engaging visitors who usually 'do' art as a passive browser rather than a participant. We work hard at turning them into active participants by using interactions, film and sound media and other activities. We offer them a joined up art experience that they will remember. The full Liminibus experience is inside an 8' high,  approximately 18' long by 11' wide zigzag structure. Here are some designs and site models for the current version :

This series of four blogposts are about four key motivators for me : Audience, Process, Materials and Marks. This one is about audience, the final one for me and the main one for you.

If you are a venue or event manager please get in touch to discuss or commission your own unique event. A Liminibus pop up could offer your visitors a short, immersive art experience that could enhance any promotion or commemoration.

We can rig a Liminibus pop up on a table top or in a 400'sq indoor environment. It showcases 2D and 3D art objects as well as hosting film screenings and audience interactions. The outside is scenic canvas, which can be specially painted for your venue. Inside are up to 12 8x4' boards for hanging and presenting work. This portable structure encloses up to 215'sq of floor area, footprint approx 11 x 18'. We designed it to flatpack and travel, up to 500 miles from Hoek van Holland.

The next time you will be able to see my work and discuss a Liminibus project will be at a group show in Sheperds Market London, called Amalgam :
